Mounting and Polishing

Colorado Metallurgical Services has expert mounting and polishing techniques for precision placement of areas of interest. CMS has four mounting presses which make compression mount sample using a thermoplastic or black phenolic powder to encapsulate the specimen prior to polishing. We also use a special 2 part resin for making non-press mounts. This gives us the advantage of a transparent mount and thin specimen encapsulation. This is an area of expertise which CMS excels at, with experience with a verity of materials from carbon steels to titanium alloys. After specimens have been properly mounting and polished the specimen is viewed on the metallurgical microscope in the as polished condition and etched conditions.
